Karen has been an active volunteer with Walls of Hope. She has served on the Board of Directors, assisted families to de-clutter their living spaces and packed their belongings before a WOH renovation project. In addition, she unpacked and organized their newly renovated space, and provided guidance to maintain their new living environment after the project has been completed. Her skill set in bookkeeping and process adherence has brought WOH to an even higher level in the Finance and Operational areas of the organization. During the renovation process she takes on tasks like ceramic tiling, dry-walling, and more.

Some of the WOH makeover and community projects that she assisted with include:

2014 – Hope for the Holidays (Hamilton)
2014 – Mary-Ann Project (Oakville)
2013 – Nelson Youth Centre (Burlington)

“We were notified that a large donated storage unit had to be vacated on very short notice due to renovations of the space. Karen, being responsible for inventory management, undertook this challenging move of amalgamating two storage units into one.

Every inventory item (from construction material & tools to furniture) had to be reclassified and reorganized. Numerous items had to be donated, reassigned, or recycled in order to fit all inventory into one storage unit. Karen measured and planned every inch of space in that unit to ensure the critical items (including shelving units) could fit and still be accessible. She even created a new itemized floor plan to assist us in locating items during busy project renovations.

This huge task was accomplished by Karen’s lead, with assistance from dedicated volunteers. What seemed insurmountable was orchestrated like a well-oiled machine and the move was even completed before the tight deadline. Amazing!”
